Forming Teaching Philosophy8/27/2019 #teachingsupermarket
During the last class we created a metaphor for our 10 things we incorporate or associate in our teaching philosophy. My metaphor was teaching is like a supermarket, you have different alleles for each method of teaching, like choice based learning, reggio emilia ect. The different sections in the alleles represent what you do for each, the sub-content within the learning method. Then within the methods of teaching you have discipline in your classroom management, lesson planning, classroom culture, ect. Mostly in my high school event and moments have shaped the way that I want my teaching philosophy to look like. I had a number of good and bad teachers growing up, but in high school I had a couple of really good teachers that really cared about me and my artwork. That was one of the reasons that I chose the words Music, Popular Culture, Patients and Engaging. I found that these were the most important to me for teachers to follow, keeping students engaged in the class, engaging with them creates important bonds with teacher student relationships. The popular culture comes into play more now, after being in the middle school spring semester i've noticed students are really engaged with the popular culture. So in turn i've found engaging the students in things they like, such as popular culture they really have fun creating and engaging with the artwork in the classroom. The metaphor incorporates the change and revisions that happen within your own opinions and or the changes in teaching overall. Whenever you go to the market sometimes you notice that companies change packaging this could symbolize the growth in each type of art method for teaching. As well as the changes that happen with your own opinions new things come and go depending on your own likes, just as the store changes out products for the community's liking. Lastly, I feel that this experience in Art 326 will help me create a more solid path that I wish to follow going into my future as an art educator. Working with younger kids is something that i've never done so I hope to expand my knowledge in how to create classroom management for K-5 classes.
