Week 1: online learning
4th and 5th grade Online art lesson
Through the use of SeeSaw, The Studio School is able to provide online learning for students. These lessons are created by homeroom classes, while allowing specials classes to add lessons either to all classrooms, or by grade level. My cooperating teachers and I have divided the grades between the three of us, on a rotating weekly schedule, allowing us to create lessons for both or individual grade levels. Feedback is given by the teacher to the students through SeeSaw using voice recording and in writing.
During this lesson, I was teaching both 4th and 5th graders. I wanted to create a lesson that allows students to get outside away from the computer, even though all the learning is being done now online. But its important to create lessons that arent 100% required on the computer, allowing students to create using different materials.

Week 2: Kindergarten/1st grade
Hearts in the Window
During this online teaching with the Kindergarten and First graders during the second week of classes, it was definitely fun to do something surrounding an art practice that created a sense of community with the students. Across the US students have been creating hearts to be placed in the front windows of their homes. This is done for the first responders, health care professionals, or anyone walking by to see these hearts in the window! I asked students to create these hearts for either someone important to them they might not be seeing, either a friend/family, neighbor, or community member they wish to send a little love to, and letting them know they care. I had a number of student create hearts for teachers, friends in class they miss or grandparents they haven’t been able to see. I also had a number of students dedicate hearts for doctors or nurses, which was very sweet and really hit at why artist create artwork for a personal or to send a message.
